Last Time Out For Saint Louis FC

STLFC struck first in their final match of the season at World Wide Technology Soccer Park last Saturday, but Louisville City FC struck often. Jordan Roberts put the home side on the board in the game’s 17th minute with an assist from Herrera.  The turning point in the match came in the game’s 35 minute when a silly tackle by James Musa resulted in a straight red card and his ejection from the match. It didn’t take long for Louisville City to take advantage of the man advantage. After that, it didn’t take long for the visitors to take the lead for good. Louisville City FC would go on to win the match 5-1 in front of a record 6,004 fans.

Who Is Oklahoma City Energy FC?

This will be the fourth meeting between this two clubs this season. Each of the three previous matches have ended in draws. The teams tied 2-2 in April in Oklahoma and twice in St. Louis by scores of 0-0 and 1-1, respectively.

Oklahoma City will be coming off short rest after playing Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Wednesday in Vancouver. Last week, the team fell to Swope Park by a score of 3-0 and has not won a game in September yet.

Wojciech Wojcik leads Oklahoma City in goals with four on the season. Danni Konig leads the team in overall scoring with three goals and four assists on the season.

What To Expect From Saint Louis FC

While this will be the final game of the season for Saint Louis FC no matter the score, there is still something to play for for these players. A worldwide search for the next Saint Louis FC coach is underway and could make for many changes in the composition of this club.

After failing to make the playoffs in either of the first two seasons of the club’s existence, the pressure is on for success next season. These players will be wanting to leave the front office folks with a positive impression heading into the offseason.

Irvin Herrera will have a legitimate chance at winning the Golden Boot award as the league’s top scorer. He is currently tied for third with 14 goals, one off the league-leading total of 15 shared by Sean Okoli and Jack McBean. Okoli and FC Cincinnati play Saturday while Jack McBean left the USL midway through the season and is now playing overseas.

Herrera has been known to score in spurts this season, 9 of his 14 goals have come in three games. If Irvin hits another spurt on Saturday, the Boot is definitely within reach.

James Musa will miss the game on Saturday while serving a one-game suspension for the red card he picked up last week. Sean Clancy and Parker Maher are the only two players listed on the injured list.

Need something to get you ready for the match? Listen to the latest episode of the This Is Silly! podcast from the St. Louligans. They will be hosting a Watch Party for the match Saturday night at International Tap House in Soulard. ITap will be offering beer specials, including a nifty Saint Louis FC/ ITap commemorative beer mug.
