St. Louis Blues Take Game 1 of Western Conference Finals

Brian Elliot made 31 saves and the St. Louis Blues got goals from David Backes and Jori Lehtera to beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 last night in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. 16 of Elliot’s saves came in the second period, where the Blues have struggled somewhat in these playoffs. Scottrade Center was a-rockin’ throughout the evening, with frequent “MOOOOSSEE” chants in appreciation of Elliot. Benjamin Hochman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is among those who thinks the Blues still have their best hockey in front of them in this series.

The teams are back in action for Game 2 Tuesday night at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The game will again begin at 7 PM CST and be aired nationally on NBCSN.

John Oliver On 9-1-1 On Last Week Tonight

John Oliver talked 9-1-1 emergency response this past weekend on Last Week Tonight. He pointed out the need for the emergency response system, the absurdity of some calls operators have to deal with and the massive problem has in the under-funding of the emergency system across the country. One example Oliver shares is of a county in Georgia that has zero members currently on its 9-1-1 advisory council.

Manchester United Match Postponed For “Suspicious” Device

Manchester United was set to play Bournemouth in the final game of the English Premier League season for both teams yesterday. Manchester United’s Old Trafford was evacuated after  a “suspicious package” was found in a stadium toilet. The game was eventually postponed. That “suspicious package”? It was a fake explosive device left behind by a private company that was training bomb-sniffing dogs. Tony Lloyd, the Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner, called for the team to apologize to fans of both teams and a full investigation into what he called a “fiasco.”

Meteorologist Forced To Put On Cardigan Over Dress On Live TV

There are many idiots on this earth. Many of them were involved in this incident of a meteorologist being forced to put on a cardigan over her dress on live television during her weather report. You first had the idiots who emailed into the show during the telecast complaining about her dress. You then had the idiots behind the scenes at the station who thought it was a good idea to have her put on a cardigan on live television. The incident happened on KTLA in Los Angeles while Liberté Chan was giving her weather report.

Chan and a coworker then took to Facebook to read aloud some of the emails that were coming in.

Atlanta Falcons Release Ridiculous Concession Prices In New Stadium

The Atlanta Falcons of the NFL released a basic concession menu for their new stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The prices are ridiculous and not in the way you would think. They will be the lowest-priced concessions in any major sport.  A regular soda will cost just $2 with a soda served in a souvenir cup costing just $4. Both will include complimentary refills of Coca-Cola products. On the food side, hot dogs and pretzels are each priced at $2. Popcorn, pizza slices and nachos are priced at $3. A cheeseburger will run fans $5 with a classic chicken tender basket priced at $6. A 12 oz. Bud Light is set to be priced at $5. More elaborate concessions were not included in the announcement.  Mercedes-Benz stadium is expected to open in 2017.

Mizzou Softball To Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

Seeds were announced last night for the 2016 NCAA Division 1 Softball Championship with Missouri (39-14) earning a #15 seed. The top 16 seeds get to host the Regional Round on their campus. The Columbia Regional will also include BYU, Louisville and Nebraska. This marks the eighth season in a row that University Field will play host to a Regional.

While most Regionals will take place from Friday-Sunday this weekend, The Columbia Regional at University Field will be different. Play will begin on Thursday, May 19 and conclude on Saturday, May 21. The reason for the change is that BYU does not play games on Sunday in accordance with the school’s Mormon faith.

Nebraska and Louisville will open play at the Columbia Regional at 4: 30 PM on Thursday. BYU and Mizzou will play at 7 PM that evening with both games televised live on ESPN2. The double-elimination Regional will conclude on Saturday.

On Saturday, Mizzou head coach Ehren Earleywine thanked the team’s “Unity Council” for their support and called for them to end their protest of Athletic Director Mack Rhoades.
