Opening This Weekend

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

USA Today’s review of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising tells us that this sequel may not be what you were expecting. The first sentence tells us that with “the raunchy college comedy is graduating to smart feminist commentary.” Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are back as parents terrorized by a Greek letter organization. This time, it’s Chloë Grace Moretz and Kappa Nu sorority. Zac Efron returns, although this time his character is on the side of Rogen and Byrne. Jonah Hill’s sister, Beanie Feldstein, makes her film debut in this sequel to 2014’s Neighbors.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $38.2 million for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. The 2014 film made almost $50 million in its opening weekend on the way to a $271 million worldwide theater run.

The Angry Birds Movie

Why turning this popular mobile game into a movie seemed like a good idea we really don’t understand. Creator Rovio Entertainment has stated they have very lofty goals for the Angry Birds franchise.  Collider referred to a sling and miss in the title of their review of The Angry Birds Movie. Local outlet StlToday.com called it “less fun than the game.”

Lindsay Bahr of the Associated Press said that the film Jason Sudeikis, Danny McBride, Josh Gad and others contributed their voices to “isn’t terrible.”

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $34.5 million for The Angry Birds Movie.

Make It A Redbox Night

The Revenant

The Revenant and Dirty Grandpa are among the movies now available to rent at your local Redbox. Finally you can see the movie that finally brought Leo his Oscar in the comfort of your own home. Make sure you prepare yourself before seeing this, however. This definitely isn’t a Hallmark or Lifetime film. It’s intense.

For something a little more upbeat, try Dirty Grandpa with Zac Efron and Robert De Niro. However, if you’r easily offended, don’t try it. Be sure to take note of the performances by Zoey Deutch and Aubrey Plaza.
