If you’ve spent time of the internet recently, you’ve likely at least seen a headline about a high school student and her prom dress inspired by Beyoncé.  But did you know that high school student, India Ross, is a St. Louis area high school student?

India Ross and her prom dress have been featured on Mashable. Graced Buzzfeed. Appeared on Seventeen, where her ponytail was described as “perfect.” And profiled on Us Weekly‘s site as well as a host of other outlets according to a Google News search. Even Metro in the United Kingdom ran a story about Ross and her dress this morning.

India Ross is currently wrapping up her senior year at Hazelwood West High School here in St. Louis. She’ll head to Chicago this fall to pursue degrees in Fashion Business and Fashion Merchandising at Columbia College- Chicago.

Ross had local designer Toi Hall of Tori Box Couture help create the prom dress based on her vision. She told Us Weekly that mesh material was used to create the dress and then 2,000 crystals were hand-placed on the dress to get the desired look.

Ross has multiple pictures of her wearing the dress she created on her Instagram page, as well as photos side-by-side with Beyoncé and the 2015 Met Gala dress that inspired her. India and her prom date took photos before the event at St. Louis’s Forest Park. Ross told Buzzfeed “My date and I felt like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. It wasn’t prom, it felt like we were at the Grammys, everyone slayed.”
