Alisan Porter Happy To No Longer Be Known Only As “Curly Sue”

Alisan Porter will now be known as a winner of The Voice along with being Curly Sue. Porter, who famously played the title character in 1991’s Curly Sue alongside Jim Belushi, was crowned the winner of season 10  of NBC’s The Voice last night.

Speaking to reporters after her win, Alisan Porter reflected a bit on being known for the past 25 years as the iconic character.

“I have retired Curly Sue, she is dead! I am now the girl who won The Voice. I would like you all to know. I’ve waited 30 something years for that! She’s dead!”

Porter beat out Adam Wakefield of Team Blake (Shelton) for the crown and became the first winner from Team Xtina, coached by Christina Aguilera. Aguilera’s highest finish previously was with Jacquie Lee in season 5. Lee was named the runner-up to Tessanne Chin.

Porter joins Jordan Smith, Sawyer Fredericks, Craig Wayne Boyd, Josh Kaufman, Chin, Danielle Bradbery, Cassadee Pope, Jermaine Paul and Javier Colon as winners of the singing competition.

Previous winners of The Voice haven’t exactly set the industry on fire, although Pope is enjoying success currently with Chris Young on the hit single “Think Of You”. Geoff Herbert of Syracuse.com thinks Porter could be different due to her status as a former child star. That, coupled with her outstanding vocal range, could lead to success for Porter.

Another powerhouse vocalist, Jennifer Nettles, joined Porter on the show’s finale to perform Nettles’ “Unlove You”

Coach Christina Aquilera also joined Porter on stage during the finale to sing “You’ve Got A Friend”.

The woman formerly known as Curly Sue first wowed Aguilera and the rest of the judges in the Blind Auditions when she sang “Blue Bayou”. All four judges turned their chairs in appreciation with Porter ultimately choosing Aquilera as her coach.

Alisan Porter’s debut music video was released last night shortly after her win was announced. The video for “Down That Road” showcases Porter’s soaring vocals and features the singer wearing the black hat that has become somewhat of a trademark for her.
