World Health Organization Says Bacon Causes Cancer

The World Health Organization’s research division said today that bacon and hot dogs are among the processed meats that cause cancer. The WHO also found said there’s a connection between red meat and colorectal cancer.  The Colon Cancer Alliance says there are more than 1 million colon cancer survivors in the United States and that colon cancer is beatable 90% of the time when caught early. The association classified processed meat as “carcinogenic to humans”. That’s the same group as tobacco smoking and asbestos. The WHO went on to say that although those things are in the same group, it doesn’t mean they pose the same risk to humans. They consider processed meats as “meat that has been salted, cured, fermented, smoked, other processes to enhance flavour or improve preservation”.

Should you avoid these meats just because the World Health Organization says they cause cancer? News Flash: Everything causes cancer.

Gurley Scores Twice To Put Rams Over Browns 24-6

The St. Louis Rams moved to 3-3 on the season yesterday with a 24-6 win over the Cleveland Browns at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis. Todd Gurley ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, his first two in the NFL. Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote today “Finally, the Rams defense have arrived” after Gregg Williams’s defense recorded 4 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries, one of which was returned by Rodney McLeod for the game’s first touchdown. Rams quarterback Nick Foles completed 15 of 23 passes for 163 yards.

It’s good the St. Louis Rams got a solid win this week, and had a loud home crowd at the Edward Jones Dome, as the NFL will hold a town hall meeting this Tuesday at Peabody Opera House to discuss the relocation process. Here’s a guide to the meeting from Shane Gray of InsideSTL.

Amy Schumer is bringing her live comedy show to St. Louis this December. The show will be Friday December 18 at Scottrade Center. Tickets will go on sale this Wednesday at 10am at LiveNation.com. Ticket prices will range from $26.50 – $122.

Martian Returns To Top Of Weekend Box Office

In its fourth weekend of release The Martian returned to the top of the weekend box office. Matt Damon and company brought in $15.9 million to top the estimated $15.5 million of Goosebumps. Bridge of Spies finished in third place with just over $11 million in its second weekend of release. Vin Diesel’s The Last Witch Hunter was the top performer of the new releases with an estimated debut of $10.8 million.

Lauren And T.J. Oshie Dress Up For Halloween

Lauren Oshie and her husband TJ apparently dressed up for a Halloween party over the weekend. In an Instagram video, Lauren appears to be dressed as  Cruella de Vil, while T.J. Oshie is dressed as a dalmatian.  Yahoo Sports! reports that the pair was dressed for the Washington Capitals’ Halloween party.

Janet Jackson Postpones St. Louis Show

Janet Jackson was supposed to play a sold-out Chaifetz Arena this Thursday. She has unfortunately been forced to cancel the show and go on vocal rest. Jackson postponed her Salt Lake City and Denver shows that had been scheduled for over the weekend as well as her show scheduled for Tuesday in Kansas City.

Martin Shkreli Does Reddit AMA Session

Martin Shkreli may consider himself something other than a terrible person. Hopefully he does because it’s likely no one else considers anything other than a douche bag. He’s the guy who raised an AIDS drug’s price by a ridiculous margin. Shkreli did a Reddit AMA session on Saturday because he really likes to dig himself deep holes. He stood by his company’s decision to raise the price of the drug, but said his public relations team handled the issue poorly. He told multiple people they were uninformed and maintained that he gets supportive emails from people. I don’t know if he just means the ones from his mother or what.

Joey Feek Stops Cancer Treatment

Joey and Rory Feek, the couple that makes up country music duo Joey + Rory, has stopped treatment for her cervical cancer after receiving news that the cancer has returned after her first round of chemotherapy. Joey’s husband Rory announced their decision in a touching post on the couple’s blog.

The 1-Year Anniversary Of The Death Of Oscar Taveras

Today marks the first anniversary of the death of Oscar Taveras and his girlfriend at the time, Edilia Arvelo in a drunk-driving accident. Benjamin Hochman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that Taveras’s legacy is a complicated one.
