Fantastic Four Tumbles In Opening Weekend

The Fantastic Four reboot fell victim to poor reviews and stumbled in its debut weekend. The film earned an estimated $26.2 million to finish second behind the second weekend of Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation. Josh Trank’s film earned a lower Cinemascore than even Pixels.  The Gift, with a paltry budget of just $5 million, finished third over the weekend with $12 million in receipts.

I’ll have more on the weekend box office on Thursday in my Weekend Movie Guide. I’ll also look at the two films opening this weekend, Straight Outta Compton and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Kylie Jenner Gets Birthday Ferrari From Tyga

Kylie Jenner just turned 18 and got a fancy gift from her boyfriend Tyga. The rapper gave her a brand new Ferrari 458 convertible valued at $260,000. Tyga, whose real name is Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, is a 25-year-old rapper with Cash Money Records. His reality show, Kingin’ with Tyga, premiered on July 24 on MTV2.

Tyga is worth and estimated $5 million and is apparently terrible at managing his money. He also hasn’t figured out the whole paying rent on time thing as he just got sued by a landlord for the second time.

Our town’s Jack Dorsey made a big purchase this week. The co-founder and interim CEO of Twitter purchased $875,000 worth of shares in the company. St. Louis Post-Dispatch Reporter Beaten And Robbed In Ferguson

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown. The death, which sparked a national conversation and the Black Lives Matter movement, was commemorated with various events throughout the weekend. A majority of the protests were peaceful, but not all. A pig was roasted and named after Darren Wilson, the officer involved in the altercation with Brown. Protesters then took the severed head of the pig to the Ferguson Police Department. St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Paul Hampel was beaten and robbed while covering the protests last night in Ferguson. An 18-year-old protester shot at four police officers and was shot. Two police officers were pepper sprayed by protesters and at least one officer was hit by a flying rock. Two teens were shot from a passing vehicle early this morning as they walked near Canfield Apartments in Ferguson, the site of the Brown incident last year. Multiple protests are planned for today throughout St. Louis for what protesters are calling “Morale Monday”. Protesters are gathering as I write this at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown St. Louis.
