Your St. Louis Weekend Movie Guide featuring Nightcrawler, Before I Go To Sleep and Chef

It’s an incredibly slow weekend at the box office with Halloween falling on the weekend this year. Nightcrawler and Before I Go To Sleep are the only films opening in wide release this weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy finally hits the second-run theaters and you can see it on the cheap locally at Keller 8 Cinema in South County. Chef is our pick of the new movies available at your local Redbox.

Recapping Last Weekend

Ouija took the weekend box office over fellow debuting film John Wick. Neither film cracked the $20 million mark with Ouija coming in at $19.8 million and Wick coming in at $14.4 million. Fury, in its second weekend, finished third with $13.4 million. Gone Girl brought in another $11 million and has now doubled its original budget domestically with $124 in four weeks. The Ben Affleck-driven film based on the Gillian Flynn novel has done well overseas and stands at $245 million in receipts worldwide.

Opening This Weekend

Nightcrawler

This is being called the performance of Jake Gyllenhaal’s career. Gyllenhaal went probably way-too-deep into his sociopath character for the “darkly comedic thriller”. Go see this film about gross exploitation.

Prediction: $10- $11 Million

Before I Go To Sleep

Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth star in this thriller. Before I Go To Sleep is a twisted 50 First Dates. Actually how awesome would it have been if Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore starred adaption of the S.j. Watson novel? While the premise actually sounds pretty interesting, Claudia Puig of USA Today was just one of the reviewers who didn’t much like this flick. Transworld Publishers, who originally published the book, thought the film was brilliant. I generally lean towards trusting anyone other than a movie critic, but just go see for yourself if you get a chance.

Prediction: Less Than $10 Million

Catch It Before It’s Gone

Keller 8 Cinema in South County welcomes Into The Storm, The Hundred-Foot Journey and Guardians of the Galaxy to its screens this weekend. Clearly, if you haven’t seen the box-office juggernaut, Guardians this weekend you need to get your butt out to Keller this weekend.

Make It A Redbox Night

Redbox welcomes Chef, Deliver Us From Evil and Begin Again among its new releases this week. We recommend you check out Chef with Robert Downey Jr, Jon Favreau and Scarlett Johansson.
