“Black Friday” falls on November 28 this year. We’re close enough to the consumer holiday for the Black Friday 2014 ads and news to begin rolling out.

In recent years some retailers have decided to open on Thanksgiving Day to catch some extra shoppers and press. As of this writing, the Boycott Black Thursday group on Facebook has 45,000 likes. That’s a lot of misguided individuals, but that’s a story for another post.

Here, we’ll compile all of the links, ads and what-not we can find to get you ready for Black Friday 2014 shopping in St. Louis.

Good news if you don’t want to wait until Black Friday. Many stores are starting Black Friday-like sales as early as tomorrow.

Thursday Openings

These stores are fighting the pitch fork mob and giving their employees the opportunity to work on the Holiday.

Walmart,Target, Sears, Toys “R” Us, Best Buy, Macy’s, Big Lots, Shoe Carnival, Kmart, Michaels and Kohl’s

It’s rumored that Best Buy and Walmart will follow Macy’s lead and start their sales at 6 PM on Thanksgiving Night.

National Deals

Not exactly a Black Friday deal, but an Xbox One definitely could be on your kid’s Christmas list. Microsoft announced recently that the Xbox One will be available for $349 from November 2 to the end of the year. That is a savings of $50 off the normal price. Special Bundles will also be on sale for Assassin’s Creed, Forza Motorport 5, Sunset Overdrive and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Store Deals

Half Price Books

Doors will open at 7 AM with the first 100 people in line getting a tote bag. 99 of those totes will contain a $5 gift card. One tote will have a $100 gift card inside. The store will also be sending out an ad with coupons for $5 off a purchase of $25 or more and another for $15 off a $50 or more purchase.

Harbor Freight Tools

There are three Harbor Freight stores on the St. Louis side of the river and one over in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Their Black Friday ad was leaked to The ad touts a 3-Day Sale with shopping starting at 7 AM on Friday. Hot deals include a $699.99 44′ 13-drawer Roller Cabinet on sale for $349.99 and a 45 watt Solar Panel kit for $140.


RadioShack (yes, they are still around) released a teaser of their Black Friday deals. Some of the deals, like the Men’s Touch Glove for $9.99, are available now.


Lowe’s hasn’t officially announced any deals yet, but they did announce HOW they will be announcing them. Starting November 2, Lowe’s will be announcing “sales, deals and discounts” through Vine. Lowe’s has over 21,000 followers on Vine and their game is strong there.


On November 3, Sears released the furniture portion of their Black Friday sale. Sears has some pretty crazy deals on mattress sets like a $999 Taylorsville Queen Set for $345 and a Serta Cobbee that retails for $750 selling for $245. They are also offering up to 60 months (five years) of special financing and giving away various gifts to random people purchasing the Black Friday deals.

Dell Home & Office

Dell’s deals are available online beginning at 9 AM CST on Thanksgiving and are staggered throughout Thursday and Friday. You can sign up for Dell Advantage to get early access to these deals. Highlights include a Dell 7 Series  3000 tablet  that was $150 for $100. Get a quality desktop of laptop with an Intel Celeron processor and Windows 8.1 for under $200. Want to get yourself a quality Bluetooth speaker? Dell has one selling for $29.99 beginning at 7 AM CST on Black Friday. Save $602 on a 55″ Smart LED HDTV. Dell also has a deal available on a Playstation 4 bundle with Grand Theft Auto V and Last of Us: Remastered. Get it for $399.99 instead of $519.99.

ACE Hardware

ACE Hardware has sales beginning on Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. Highlights include a Cuisinart 12 Pc Red Ceramic Coated Knife Set that retails for $49.99 selling for $19.99 and a 10,000 BTU Table-Top Heater for $49.99.

Sports Authority

Sports Authority will open its doors at 6 pm on Thanksgiving. Doorbusters include Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off on Men’s Women’s and Kids’ footwear and Buy 1, Get 1 Free on sports balls. The first 50 people in line at each store on Thanksgiving are eligible for a camping chair and the first 80 in line are eligible to win up to $500. You can also save up to $1,200 on a treadmill or $1,050 on an Elliptical machine. Need a new tennis racquet? Save up to $270 on one. Are you counting down the calendar days until pitchers and catchers report? Save 50% on MLB jerseys.


**UPDATE* Target will have the Beats By Dre Solo Drenched headphones for $97. Also at under $100, they’ll have a Nikon L330 20.2MP digital camera with a 26x zoom lens on sale for $99. Televisions at Target will also be on sale. Beginning at 6 pm on Thanksgiving, you can get a 48″ Westinghouse for $235 or a 55″ version for $395. Buy a 16GB iPad Air 2 for $499 and get a $140 gift card. Looking to take the next step with your photography? Get a Nikon D3200 camera with two lenses for $496.99, a savings of $283. Ready to step into a dSLR camera? Get a Cannon T5 dSLR bundle valued at $800 for $449.

Speaking of stepping up you game, Target will have a Sony Playstation 4 Bundle that comes with Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Last of Us for $399.

Looking more for toys for the kids? Target will be selling any Disney Infinity 2.0 or Skylanders Trap Team in stock for $39.99. LEGO sets will also be 40 percent off. Assorted dolls like Lalaloopsy, My Little Pony, Disney and will be buy one, get one for 50 percent off. Razor lighted-wheel folding scooters will be on sale for $19.

Need a family gift? Save $150.99 on an Intex Purespa inflatable hot tub. Plenty of movies and television series will be on sale for between $4-$9 and many books will be on sale for 50 percent off the list price. Target will also have a Men’s T-tech by Tumi Jacket that’s regularly priced at $225 on sale for $50 and plenty of men’s, women’s and children’s clothes for 40 percent off.

In a deal only available on Friday from 6 am – Noon, Target will be selling gift cards for 10 percent off their denomination.

While the full Target Black Friday ads haven’t leaked yet, the retailer did announce a really cool deal going on now. Each day until Christmas Eve a different toy will be available at 50% off via Target’s Cartwheel app. As I write this, the deal available is for 50% off the Minnie Hold My Hand & Sing Doll.

Best Buy

The Best Buy Black Friday flyer that was released is a massive 50 pages of deals starting at 5 pm on Thanksgiving. Stores will close at 1 am on Friday and re-open at 8 am. Tickets will be handed out to those in line 2 hours before the Thanksgiving opening and one hour before the Friday opening. One big deal that gets your eye off the bat is a Panasonic 50″ HDTV for $199.99. If you want to get in line for that one, you may need to grab an Egg McMuffin and a hash brown from McDonald’s on your way to get in line Thursday morning. Looking for a new cellular telephone? Sign up for two years with Verizon, AT&T or Sprint and you can get a Samsung Galaxy S 5 for $1. Don’t have your Beats by Dr. Dre headphones yet but want to look cool? Get a pair of the Solos for $79.99, a saving of $90. Video games like Madden 15, FIFA 15, NBA 2K15 and Diablo III are on sale for $29.99 each. Sure, USB drives are fading out, but Best Buy has a crazy deal on one from SanDisk. Get a 128GB one for $27.99, a savings of $112.

Best Buy will have six deals available November 20-22. Those prices won’t be available until November 20, but some of the items on sale with be a Asus laptop, iPad Airs and televisions.

Office Depot and Office Max

Office Depot is heavy on laptops and tablets for Black Friday. You can get a 9″ HD Android Tablet with a keyboard and case for $49.99. They’ll also have a Dell Inspiron touchscreen laptop for $279.99. The stores will be open from 6 pm – 9 pm on Thanksgiving and will re-open at 8 am on Friday.


In news that may be bigger than the release of the Thanksgiving and Black Friday ad, Walmart announced that they will begin matching prices from online outlets, including Amazon.

Walmart released a huge 40-page ad covering three different “events”. Event 1 starts at 6 pm Thursday. Event 2 starts at 8 pm Thursday and Event 3 starts at 6 Am Friday November 28.

Event 1: You can get a 50″ for $218 or a 65″ for $648. Walmart is also selling a 16 GB iPad Mini with wi-fi for $199 and a XBox One Halo: The Master Chief Collection bundle for $329. Both of those come with a $30 Walmart gift card. All four of those deals as well as some others are covered by the store’s “1-Hour Guarantee”, which says that if any of the items sell out between 6 pm and 7 pm Thursday night, they will offer a limited opportunity for you to purchase one and have it shipped to you by Christmas. You more of a Playstation gamer? Get a PS4 for $399 with a $50 Walmart gift card. Games for both systems will also be on sale.  Movies like Argo and Magic Mike will be among the  214+ titles on DVD on sale for $1.96. Another 165+, including Rush, Battleship and The LEGO Movie will be on sale for $3.96. More than 250 titles will be available on Blue-ray at a Special Buy prices of $3.96 – $9.96. A plethora of board games like Monopoly, Jenga, Operation and Life are on sale at prices ranging from $4.88 to $8.88. Kiddo wants a Disney Character Guitar? Pick one up for $10 Thanksgiving night. A variety of 28″ plush characters like Mickey Mouse, Spiderman and Elsa from Frozen are on sale for $10. You have fond memories of your sweet Power Wheels ride? Pick up a BMW, yellow Viper or Corvette for $99. Forget toys, family needs clothes? Walmart has a bunch of clothes, shoes and accessories on sale for under $10. Need a family gift? Save $200 on a Coleman Spa. Dad needs tools? Get a 133-piece Black & Decker Drill Project Kit for $69. Don’t know where all your tuperware went? Walmart has two different sets on sale for $6.98.

Event 2: Two more televisions are on sale beginning at 8 pm Thursday. A 60″ one is on sale for $498 or get a 32″ for $98. You can also save between $150 and $200 on a Samsung Smart TV. Also big will be the HP laptop for $159 and a Fitbit Flex for $69. Several other laptops and desktops will also be on sale. Four different tablets will be on sale for under $100, including the Nabl 2 Nickelodeon Edition. Beats By Dre products also are popular this Black Friday. Walmart has both ear buds and the Drenched Solo headphones on sale, albeit the ear buds are only $10 off. In the market for a new mobile phone plan? Deals are available with Verizon or Straight Talk. Walmart also has the same Nikon 3200 bundle that Target has, but for a very slightly higher price of $499. They also have a $699 Canon Rebel TSI dSLR 2-lens bundle.

Event 3: By 6 am Friday, Walmart appears to have lost steam in creating deals. a variety of merchandise is available for 30 percent off and all diamonds are on sale. Tires, firearms and hunting apparel are also on sale. If you really are in the market for a new cell phone plan, Walmart has a deal where you can get up to a $200 egift card for trading in your smartphone.


Staples will start its deals at 6 pm on Thursday night. The stores will close at 10 pm and re-open on Friday at 6 am. The flagship deal is an Asus laptop for $99.99, a savings of $150. They are also offering deals on other laptops and including a Kindle eReader with any priced at $399 or above. The eReader is available by itself for $49. It’s $79 on Amazon. Need a cross-cut shredder? Staples is offering one that is typically $130 for $19.99 “after easy rebate”. Staples also has deals on several Keurig brewers and is including a $30 Staples gift card with each. Any in-store Black Friday purchase also with get you 25 free 5″ x 7″ holiday cards.
