Michael Sam released by St. Louis Rams
Former University of Missouri defensive standout Michael Sam was released on Saturday by the St. Louis Rams. He then cleared waivers and became eligible to be signed by any NFL team to their practice squad. Sam is the first openly gay player to be drafted by the NFL and is working towards becoming the first openly gay athlete to play in a regular season NFL game. Sam played well in the preseason for the Rams, leading many to say that he proved he can play in the league. Others say that Sam needs a bit more work before he can play in the NFL. The Rams happen to be loaded at his position so, it’s highly unlikely the team will sign him to their practice squad.
