Sam Bradford Out As St. Louis Rams Quarterback; Shaun Hill Moves To QB1

Reports yesterday went from the St. Louis Rams being worried about Sam Bradford’s ACL in the early afternoon to reports confirming the quarterback had torn his ACL again to Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirming in a press conference in the early evening that Bradford would miss the 2015 season. Bradford was hurt early in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Rams signed veteran Shaun Hill in the offseason in part to have as an option if Bradford went down. Hill backed up Matthew Stafford over the last three seasons in Detroit. He has thrown a grand total of 16 NFL regular season passes combined in the last three seasons. Hill did start 10 games for the Detroit Lions back in 2010, including a 44-6 win over the Rams. Hill completed 21 of 32 passes for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns in that game.

The only offers Hill received coming out of high school in Kansas were from NCAA Division II schools and even those weren’t for him to play quarterback. Coming out of junior college, the only two NCAA Division I programs Hill received offers from were Maryland and South Carolina. Hill became a Terrapin and led Maryland to the 2002 Orange Bowl, where they fell to Rex Grossman and the Florida Gators.

Shaun married his wife, Ashton, back in 2010. The couple, both from Parsons, Kanasas, make their home in Osage Beach, Missouri. Hill has run football camp for the past 11 years during the early summer at Parsons High School.

Michael Sam Sacks Johnny Manziel, Mocks Him and Earns Money for Charity

A Twitter-user in New York City tweeted before Saturday’s Rams-Browns game that if Michael Sam sacked “Johnny Football” and mocked him with his “money sign” he would buy the whole world drinks, forever. Michael Sam did just that and the Twitter-user had egg on his face. Through a series of tweets, Sam told the user, @SquareKnight, that his favorite charity is the Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis. The man made a donation to the charity.

Miley, Beyonce and Katy Perry Steal the Show at MTV Video Music Awards

Miley Cyrus won the Video of the Year award at the MTV Video Music Awards last night. She sent her date for the evening up to the stage to accept the award on her behalf. Jesse, a homeless teenager accepted that award and talked about the plight of America’s homeless youth. During his speech, viewers were urged to go to Miley’s Facebook page and make a donation to My Friend’s Place.

Miley and Jesse went out for some hamburgers after the show. *Update* “Jessie” is apparently Jesse Andrew Helt, according to Buzzfeed.

Of course the awards weren’t the actual highlight of the evening. Taylor Swift gave a fun performance of her new single, “Shake It Off”. Deadspin isolated the vocals from her performance because, like T-Swizzle says “haters gonna hate, hate, hate”. 5 Seconds of Summer performed “Amnesia“. Remember, this performance is the reason they won’t be opening for One Direction Wednesday in St. Louis. Beyonce brought down the house with a medley of her hits. E! Online called it the “performance of her career”. Her husband, Jay Z, and daughter, Blue Ivy, joined her on stage at the end of the performance. Katy Perry and some rapper dude called Riff Raff showed up dressed as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake from the 2001 American Music Awards. We read these five things to know about Riff Raff and still don’t know who the hell he is. Nicki Minaj had a bit of a problem with her wardrobe during her performance.

There was a moment of silence held during the show for the late Michael Brown of Ferguson. The Kardashians were apparently silent, but busy on their phones.

Here are 5 things from Mashable that you didn’t see on the television broadcast. Prior to the event, Death Row Records founder Suge Knight was among three people shot at a party hosted by Chris Brown.

Here’s a rundown from Jezebel on the red carpet outfits.

6.0-magnitude Earthquake Rocks Napa Valley

The good news is that there were no deaths over the weekend when Northern California was rocked by an earthquake. The bad news is that Napa Valley wineries were hit hard by the ‘quake. One winery told the Associated Press that it lost “as much as 50 percent” of its wine. Total damages are expected to be more than $1 billion, with the wine to make up a substantial part of that.

Many streets in the area were also damaged. Some skateboarders made the best of the situation.

Guardians of the Galaxy Back to Top of Box Office

Guardians of the Galaxy took the top spot at the box office after finishing second for the last two weekends to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A movie returning to the top spot like this isn’t something you see very often. Guardians has now moved past Transformers: Age of Extinction as the top-grossing movie of the summer. If I Stay was the top-performing new movie over the weekend with an estimated $16.4 million. When the Game Stands Tall brought in $9 million and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For disappointed with $6.5 million. All of the three in their debut weekend were under expectations but Sin City 2 really missed considering some expectations had it bringing in $20 million.

We’ll have more on the weekend box office on Thursday in our Weekend Movie Guide. We’ll also preview As Above, So Below and The November Man with Pierce Brosnan.

Wanted Man Arrested After Posting #ALSIceBucketChallenge Video

If there is a warrant out for your arrest, it’s probably not a great idea to be posting to social media. A man in Omaha wanted on a parole violation, posted his video on Facebook and a tipster contacted police about his whereabouts. Jesean Morris was later apprehended by police while riding in a vehicle. He spit on an officer during the arrest and was charged with assaulting an officer among other things.

Little Caesars Announces Pretzel Pizza

Little Caesars, home of the HOT-N-READY pizza, is announcing the Soft Pretzel Crust Pepperoni Pizza today. The pizza will be available for eight weeks beginning September 1. If successful, the pizza may be a permanent fixture on the menu. The pizza, which will sell for $6, will not be entirely a pretzel. The outer edge has a thick salted and butter pretzel crust and the inner part is made of regular pizza dough. The special pizza will be sold as part of the HOT-N-READY program.
