Monday Roundup: Bride drags baby down aisle, Sgt. Bergdahl freed

Bride drags baby down the aisle

Buzzfeed put up a post last night that drew from a story earlier in the evening from the Daily Mail. A bride is Tennessee decided that she would attach her newborn baby to the back of her Vera Wang wedding dress and essentially drag the baby down the aisle. As if this story couldn’t get any better, the woman somehow is convinced that God was behind her decision, supports it and made sure the baby was safe during all of this. If you click below the pictures on either post, you can read more about all of the insanity surrounding this on the woman’s Facebook page. Any Facebook user can tell you that they have crazy friends that invoke religion in all sorts of misplaced ways, such as asking you to pray when their significant other/child have the sniffles or saying the Lord will provide them a job while they take naps all day on the couch. It is seriously doubtful anything tops this.

Bowe Bergdahl: American Hero or something else?

U.S. Soldier Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was returned to the United States on Saturday after having been held prisoner in Afghanistan since 2009. The price for his return? The U.S. sent five Afghan detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Qatar. The five, all fairly important in the Taliban ranks, are supposedly going to be held under close observation in Qatar. A Rolling Stone story in 2012 by the now-deceased Michael Hastings attempted to unravel the questions surrounding Bergdahl’s disappearance. A series of events had left Bowe disillusioned. He wasn’t sure whose best interests the Army was looking out for. Bowe is rumored to have walked off the base and been captured by Taliban fighters shortly after. Republicans in Washington have accused the Obama administration of breaking the law in authorizing this trade. Bergdahl is currently recovering at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.

Of course Qatar bought the 2022 FIFA World Cup

When Qatar was awarded the 2022 World Cup back on December 2, 2010, everyone knew it was fishy. For one, Summer temperatures in the tiny Gulf state can reach 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The event would have to be held in the Winter months in order to keep players from dying, which would screw up all kinds of things. The Sunday Times of London published a story over the weekend that they had “millions of emails and other documents” relating to Mohamed Bin Hammam, then a FIFA executive member, talking about bribes paid to garner support for the Qatar bid. Bin Hammam has since been banned from the sport for life by FIFA. The possibility of a re-vote for the 2022 World Cup has been discussed.

Ballmer buying Los Angeles Clippers

Steve Ballmer, the former Microsoft CEO, is buying the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association for $2 billion. Deadspin has a really funny look at just who Steve Ballmer is. Mike Downey at CNN doesn’t understand why in the world Ballmer is offering $2 billion. Wonder what Donald Sterling and V. Stiviano are up to? Sterling decided to do some praying at a predominately black church in South Los Angeles. V. Stiviano was supposedly beaten up by two men in New York City last night. Her lawyer talked to Radar Online before a police report had even been made. What does that tell you?

Nashville stars sign with CAA

I for one didn’t know that the Maddie and Daphne Conrad, character on the ABC hit Nashville, were played by real-life sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella. The pair recently signed a contract with Creative Artists Agency. CAA also represents Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and many others. Here’s the pair singing “A Life That’s Good” recently on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

Ann B. Davis dead at 88

Ann B. Davis is most famous for playing Alice on The Brady Bunch from 1969-1974 and again in various TV specials and movies throughout the years. The legendary television actress was apparently in realtivly good health for her age, but fell in her bathroom early Sunday morning. She hit her head and never regained consciousness. Her Brady Bunch co-stars have been sharing their condolences, including Barry Williams on Good Morning America. Davis won several Primetime Emmy Awards before while starring on The Bob Cummings Show before joining The Brady Bunch.

Maleficent comes out strong while A Million Ways to Die in the West flops

Disney bet big on the $180 million retelling of Sleeping Beauty.  They were rewarded over the weekend with a $70 million domestic opening and $100 million overseas. It’s the best opening for an Angelina Jolie film, besting the $60 million Kung Fu Panda opened to in 2008. Wanted was her top live-action film previously. It opened just shy of $51 million three weeks after Panda. Maleficent was also the biggest opening for Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who was three during filming.

X-Men: Days of Future Past finished in second place in its second weekend with $32.6 million. The film’s huge overseas sales have now pushed it over the $500 million mark worldwide. A Million Ways to Die in the West opened in third with $17 million. It was made for around $40 million. Godzilla finished in fourth place with $12.2 million. It has now brought in $374.7 million worldwide against its $160 million budget. Blended pulled in $8.4 million in its second weekend, a 41% drop.

Neighbors finished just outside the top five with $7.7 million in its fourth weekend. The $18 million comedy has now topped $128.6 million domestically.

Has the “hidden cash” movement hit St. Louis?

In case you aren’t up to speed, an anonymous person started hiding envelopes of cash around San Francisco last week and then directing people to it via Twitter. He encourages the lucky folks who find the cash to do something good with it. The man has said that he will begin hiding cash around New York City next. Now, it appears someone else may be taking a cue and bringing this scavenger hunt to St. Louis. HiddenCash314 is billing itself as the official Hidden Cash St. Louis page. It doesn’t appear that there is any official confirmation yet that someone has actually found money in St. Louis through this.
