thurman loop fest Thurman Loop Fest: A free Shaw neighborhood street party with music and activities for people of all ages to promote the diversity and strength of our historic urban neighborhood. The festival is named after the old bus and trolley turn around on Thurman between Botanical and Magnolia, known as the Thurman Loop. From alley to alley, enjoy live music and beautiful arts and crafts. Check out art booths, live music from The Sherpas, Tom Hall, The Freedom, Sarah Jane & The Blue Notes and more, plus shows for children, carnival games, food booths and Schlafly Beer. Proceeds from beverage sales are donated to Habitat for Humanity.

circus flora 28th Annual Circus Flora: The Pawn: Through a unique and unexpected partnership, the World Chess Hall of Fame and the Chess Club & Scholastic Center of St. Louis have joined forces with Circus Flora to create this thrilling 28th anniversary production, bringing to life the brilliance of the oldest intellectual pursuit in the world: The Game of Chess. You will see the game of chess come alive with sounds and mystique of Persia and India. Follow the Pawn on his journey through a world of curious creatures and intrigues: knights mounted on steed, bishops zigzagging across colored squares, and more. Peanut Free Preview – Thursday, May 29th. FloraDora – Saturday, May 31 – Join event chairs Kathie and Richard Winter for our 11th annual FloraDora Fantasy Gala! Proceeds benefit outreach programs and productions benefiting the St. Louis community.

fashion show Redefined Fashion Show: A VMAL Customs fashion show. VMAL Customs is all things fashion with custom designs your way. The fashion show, hosted by Celebrity Guest and America’s Next Top Model alum, Bianca Golden, will leave you fully entertained and ready to revamp your wardrobe with the latest VMAL gear! General Admission tickets are $25.00. VIP Tickets are $35.00 and include exclusive seating, hor d’oeuvres, a meet & greet with the models, designer Victoria Mallory and Bianca Golden. zoofari Jungle Boogie at the Zoo Get your boogie on with the animals with the zoo’s free Friday night concert series in the Schnuck’s Family Plaza. The Dirty Muggs perform this Friday. Come early to see the Sea Lion Show, the children’s zoo live animal show, and keeper chats – Fridays at 10:30am in the Bird House and at 2:30pm in the Ape House. You can also take a 30-minute walking tour with one of the knowledgeable interpreters. Tour choices are Extreme Zoo Safari, River’s Edge Safari and African Safari. Tickets are $5.

portland place CWE House & Garden Tour: The 2014 tour will feature five homes and multiple gardens along the exclusive enclave of Portland Place, one of the most recognized “private places” in the country. Designed in 1888 by noted St. Louis private place surveyor Julius Pitzman, Portland Place was once home to tennis pioneer Dwight Davis. With its wide boulevard, landscaped median and stone mansions, Portland Place epitomizes the “Meet Me in St. Louis” style of elegance on display at the annual house tour. This annual, self-guided tour showcases the private streets and mansions in the CWE, a National Register Historic District. Tickets begin at $22 and are now available online, at Left Bank Books, and at all Pulaski Bank locations. Preview party-Friday, May 30th – tickets are $75.

rummage sale Woman’s Place Rummage Sale: A rummage sale to raise awareness and funds for Woman’s Place, a safe and welcoming drop-in center serving adult women in the metro St. Louis and St. Charles area. They offer crisis intervention, referral services, support groups and personal empowerment workshops. Come on out and check out the selection. Have something you want to get rid of? Donate it to the rummage sale for a great cause.

articulated bus Articulated Bus Painting: The St. Louis region’s first-ever articulated buses are coming to the Grand Line in the next few weeks. The bus, made of two sections linked by a pivoting joint, provides a cost effective way for Metro transit to ease overcrowding on its busiest route. Come learn about Metro’s new articulated buses while painting and turning one into a gigantic 60 ft rolling work of art. A colorful mural designed by The Firecracker Press in St. Louis will feature a sampling of the notable civic landmarks, iconic buildings and prominent features of the Grand Avenue streetscape. The design will also prominently feature the slogan “It’s Grand!” across the top panels of the bus.

The cast is comprised of talented local performers who entertain for their love of music and charity. Tickets are $17.

gatekeepers StL Gatekeepers Turf Wars: Come check out St. Louis’ first and only men’s flat track roller derby league as the Dogtown Rockets take on the undefeated South Grand Slammers in a Turf War bout. The winner of this final season bout will move on to the Turf Wars Championships on June 21st. Tickets are $10 at the door. Kids 10 and under are free. Group discounts available.

panoptic Panoptic: An exhibition that focuses on artists being themselves and following their intuitions. No theme, no ideas presented, just raw work from each of the artists in this exhibition. picnic in the park Picnic in the Park: The neighborhood Picnic in the Park, celebrating Friends of Tower Grove Park’s 25th Anniversary, is on Sunday, June 1 at the Palm House and Music Stand. Doesn’t know how to cook and survives pretty much on macaroni and cheese and pizza, so naturally, loves to eat out at restaurants. However, one day when she is married and has a family to cook for, she would love to take cooking classes and learn awesome skills like the chefs on Iron Chef America...as long as she doesn't have to clean the dishes afterwards.
