The Monday Roundup (3/31/14)

March 31, 2014
St. Louis Cardinals Worth $860 Million
Forbes released its annual list of MLB team valuations late last week. The Cardinals rank 8th overall with a value of $860 million. The club made $65.2 million last year. The New York Yankees took the top spot with a value of $2.5 billion. They lost $9.1 million last year. Considering the Cardinals just opened Ballpark Village and completed the purchase of their top minor league club, I’d say their profits may be a bit higher this year. Maybe they can get a few more people to pay $500 to “pop the question” this year too.
Happy Opening Day, baseball fans.
Noah Brings In $44 Million
The film loosely based on the bible story brought in $44 million with mixed reviews from audiences. Divergent took the second spot with $26.5 million. In its second week, that film has already brought in $95 million, $10 million more than its budget. Sabotage had a dismal opening weekend with an estimated $5.3 million. Noah brought in more than that, $6.2 million, on IMAX screens alone. We’ll have a more detailed look at the numbers on Thursday in our Weekend Movie Guide.
Frozen Becomes Highest-Grossing Animated Film of All-Time
With $1.072 billion in global ticket sales, the Disney film has surpassed Toy Story 3‘s $1.063 billion to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Only about $400 million of Frozen‘s total has come in the United States.
Final Four Set
The field for next weekend’s Final Four is set after Kentucky knocked off Michigan last night. Connecticut will play Florida and Kentucky will take on Wisconsin. A three-pointer by Kentucky’s Aaron Harrison in the closing seconds of the game kept their season alive and made his coaches and Athletic Director a combined $330,000 in contract bonuses. Head coach John Calipari will get a $150,000 bonus and has now received $350,000 during the team’s tournament run.
How I Met Your Mother Finale Airs Tonight
The show has aired for 9 years and 200 episodes. The show has meant a lot to a lot of viewers. It’s taught viewers a few things along the way. Some people have some crazy ideas of what will happen in the finale, like maybe someone dies? Whatever happens, it probably won’t be as brutal as the season 4 finale of The Walking Dead.
Ford Parodies Cadillac
It’s a parody of Cadillac’s ad that debuted during the Olympics which Gawker called the “World’s Douchiest Ad”.
Arizona Fans Riot After Loss
After the Arizona Wildcats lost to the Wisconsin Badgers in the Elite 8 on Saturday night, Arizona fans rioted in Tuscon. Police may have went a little overboard in dealing with the crowd. A knocked over street sign was the only property damage and 15 people were arrested. The department is investigating at least one incident where excessive force may have been used. (Incident occurs around the 20 second mark.)
I don’t think police are investigating the below incident but this Vine video of it is awesome.

Three movies based on J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beats And Where To Find Them are on the way. Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara talked about the movies in a recent interview with the New York Times.
