St. Louis media empire Coolfire saw their newest production hit screens around the country Tuesday with Carvers premiering on SyFy.

The show follows artist Ray Villafane and Andy Bergholtz as they travel around the world carving art pieces out of such material as pumpkins, wood, chocolate and meat.

Bergholtz, who is originally from St. Louis, spoke to St. Louis Magazine recently about how the pair is doing this not to promote themselves, but to promote their craft.

“Neither of us want to be TV personalities necessarily, but we love sharing what we do with the world.”

Bergholtz and Villafane are partners in Villafane Studios. Bergholtz also works for Sideshow Collectibles making high-end collectible statues of icons like Captain America, Batman and Han Solo. Yahoo! did a story back in 2012 on a pumpkin that Andy carved to look like The Joker. He told Action Fan Insider that he still dreams of being a Marine Biologist or a Ninja when he grows up.

Ray Villafane has twice won “Challenge: Outrageous Pumpkins” on Food Network. In 2011 he took to Kickstarter to initially fund a line of Pumpkin Carving Kits that are now offered through the Villafane Studios website.

Coolfire’s most recent television show was “Salvage City” on Discovery. That showed created quite the buzz around St. Louis. So much of a buzz in fact that St. Louis Police looked into how the main characters on the show “acquired” their treasures. No wrong-doing was found of course.

Episode one of “Carvers” takes place far away from St. Louis. Bergholtz and Villafane travel to Hong Kong to create a piece for a Halloween celebration. Ripley’s Believe It or Not was on-hand to give them a certificate for “The Largest Display of Pickled Pumpkin Sculptures Ever Produced”.

In other Coolfire news, Ashley Green, the company’s Human Resources Manager, recently won the KMOX Sports Correspondent contest and will be spending a few days in Jupiter, Florida covering the St. Louis Cardinals for the station. She was also on The Ryan Kelley Morning After show this morning.
