Matt Holliday Dollar Help

The DollarHelp program is run annually by Laclede Gas to help those struggling to pay their heating bills. Matt Holliday has joined the team this year to help promote the program.

DollarHelp works by giving St. Louisans several ways to donate. Customers can check the red box on their bill to automatically donate $1 per month or can pay exactly $1 extra on their monthly bill to make a one-time donation. Those interested in donating can also mail their donation to the program’s office.  Laclede Gas will match the monthly donation totals up to $55,000.  Laclede Gas and United Way of Greater St. Louis work together to handle the administrative costs of the program so that every dollar pledged through the program goes directly to those in need. In the program’s 30 years, it has raised more than $20 million.

Here’s a video illustrating the program.

Matt Holliday of the St. Louis Cardinals has partnered with the program this year. Holliday also partners with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation on its Homers For Health campaign. That campaign has raised $1 million dollars for the foundation in its two years.  Holliday has played 643 games in a Cardinal uniform over five seasons and is signed through the 2016 season. Matt and his wife Leslee make their home year-round in St. Louis along with their two children. Holliday hosts a yearly golf tournament benefiting the Pujols Family Foundation, even though he doesn’t play himself. Holliday is also an avid supporter of the Blues and Rams. He recently talked to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about watching T.J. Oshie against Russia in the Sochi Winter Olympics.

In working with Holliday, Laclede Gas is running a photo contest through their Facebook page. The grand prize in the “Share the Warmth” photo contest is a trip for four to Jupiter, Florida to watch the Cardinals in action at spring training. The winner will also get to meet Holliday. Runner-up prizes include tickets to regular season Cardinals games. To enter, share a picture on the Laclede page of how you “share the warmth”. The contest runs until February 25th so get your photos in soon.
