Funky-Butt-Brass-Band New Orleans New Year with Funky Butt Brass Band: It’s the first weekend in January. Do it right and party with the Funky Butt Brass Band. Six talented musicians take classic New Orleans brass tunes and give them a twist in the style of Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band, and Bonerama mixed with some Motown, southern rock, Memphis soul, Chicago blues, and St. Louis R&B. Enjoy a great dinner followed by great live music and dancing. Admission is $20 of $10 for students.

west side story West Side Story: One of the greatest musicals of all time is coming live to The Fox. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim includes a collection of standards like “Tonight,” “America,” “Maria,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.” The choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance. This tour, based on Arthur Laurents’ groundbreaking 2009 Broadway direction, offers a bold new design that builds on the show’s raw power and emotion to create a fresh experience unlike any that came before it. Tickets range from $30-$75.

ball Celebrate a 1764 Twelfth Afternoon Ball: Visitors of the Old Courthouse will enjoy music by Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Creole, dance instruction with Deborah Hyland, and historic characters of St. Louis’ past. Food Historian Suzanne Corbett will present a display of treats from 250 year old recipes common to  St. Louis dinner tables during the holiday seasons. At 2:00 the King’s Cake will be served and the Kings and Queens of the Mardi Gras will be crowned.

new year classic 2014 New Year Classic: Head out to St. Peter’s Missouri for a fun charity soccer match: The St. Louligans vs American Outlaws St. Louis. In addition to a great game, you will also be supporting the St. Louis Foodbank. Bring at least one canned food item to the game. After the match, Exit 6 Brewery will host an after-party.

Place: Tony Glavin Soccer Complex – 2 Woodlands Pkway, St. Peters

way of lights run Way of Lights 5K and 1.5 Mile Fun Walk: Come out to The Shrine and compete in the annual Way of Lights 5K. The course is USAT & F Certified. Registration is $25 or $30 after Jan 2nd. You will be provided with a Chronotrack Chip. Registration also included a free athletic headband. The top male and female will receive a winner’s trophy and medals will be awarded to the Top 3 male and females in each age group. Walkers registration fee is $15 or $20 after Jan 2nd.

perennial DIY Demo: STL Trash Talk: Feeling pumped from all this Salvage City talk? Join the DIY Demo and get the low-down on where to discover the best “trash” in St. Louis. Jenny Murphy will leak some of Perennial’s favorite spots to find discarded furniture, give you insights into the city’s bulk trash system, and link you to online resources where someone else’s trash can become your treasure. Plus, learn simple and innovative ways to shape and form your new furniture finds for a whole new look. By the end of the demo, you may just be able to furnish your house for free. Cost is $5 at the door.

stl wed show The Wedding Show at America’s Center: The largest annual wedding show in St. Louis. Any newly engaged Christmas couples? This show is a must! Presented by St. Louis Bride & Groom Magazine, the registration fee is $8. Free parking at Paddy O’s. You will learn everything you need to know about planning your perfect wedding. Enjoy local themed sports prizes, fashion shows, vendor discounts, fun interactive contests,  giveaways, displays, photo opportunities, and special live music. Special appearances by Fredbird, Rams Cheerleaders, Blues Mascot ‘Louie,’ and Fox Sports Midwest Girls. You can even download the app: STL Wedding Show to help you navigate through the day.

lempbridal Winter Food Tasting and Bridal Open House: The Lemp Mansion Restaurant and Inn offers a variety of fabulous wedding packages. Come on down for their open house and taste and see what they have to offer. Reservations are required.

downton abbey Downton Abbey Watch Party: The Nine Network and the Missouri History Museum host a British-inspired evening for the Downton Abbey Season 4 Premiere on the big screen. Enjoy light refreshments and tea while exploring tables with activities, and Downton trivia. Prizes will be awarded. Activities begin at 6:30pm. The premiere is at 8pm. Costumes are not required but are always a fun addition. This event is free and open to the public but reservations are required.
