Saturday Night Live rocked the house

BuzzFeed did a list of the 16 best moments of this past weekend’s episode featuring Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon and a host of others. Here are my three favorite bits from the show.

Anchorman 2 opens in second place

The continuation of Ron Burgundy finished second at the box office over the weekend to The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Hobbit brought in $31.5 million to Anchorman‘s $26.78 weekend. Anchorman probably would have taken then weekend had it opened on a Friday instead of a Wednesday, but overall it likely made more money in its opening week with the Wednesday opening. The film made a combined $13.2 million on Wednesday and Thursday. BuzzFeed has an article about how the sequel actually made less than the original on opening weekend when you adjust for inflation. We’ll have a more in-depth look at the numbers on Thursday as part of our Weekend Movie Guide.

Snapchat puts out an update

You can now use different filters on your pictures and overlay other things on top of them. You can also replay one “snap” every 24 hours. There are some other cool updates in there as well. It’s available for both the Android and iOS versions.

Seventh Woods is really athletic

This kid is 15. Everyone is talking about this recent dunk. EVERYONE. Dime has a GIF of the fan reaction. It made Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays. Seventh’s mixtape from his freshman season has 9.6 million views. He was born in 1998.

Target and Amazon are PISSED at Beyonce

They are mad that she chose to exclusively sell her newest album on iTunes for its first week. They’ve announced that they simply won’t sell it. Queen Bey’s move? A trip to Walmart where she did something pretty cool.

Credit cards stolen from Target on sale

Word is that credit card numbers stolen in the recent massive hacker attack have flooded the black market. Interesting to note that most of the developed world uses a different technology than the US uses. The magnetic strip technology used here is much easier to hack than what is used elsewhere.

Woman gives her family a Christmas gift two years after her death

The story has been making its way around the internet. Here’s some more on it.

All of the hit country songs in 2013 sounded the same

I’m a country music fan, but this video is still really well done and quite funny.

Justine Sacco lost her job

Sometimes people say dumb things on Twitter that they think are funny. St. Louis had its own bout with that with Bobby Metzinger during the World Series. Justine Sacco was the PR director at IAC. IAC is a media company that runs brands such as College Humor, Match.Com, BlackPeopleMeet.com, The Daily Beast, Vimeo and Okcupid. Justine tweeted the following on Friday:

Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!

What made this really bad was that Ms. Sacco was boarding a flight to South Africa to see her father. She was born in South Africa, but her father elected to raise her in the United States instead. With Justine being on a long flight without internet access, she wasn’t able to delete the tweet and Twitter blew up. People were tracking her flight and someone met her at the airport to report.  Justine of course deleted all of her social media accounts when she landed and IAC deleted her from the company payroll. While her tweet was unwise, just like Metzinger’s, at least her tweet didn’t get her arrested. The Wall Street Journal linked to some other stories that talked about how people may have gone a little too far with this one. Actor Steve Martin was also forced to apologize for an off-color tweet over the weekend. The difference with Martin was that he had an internet connection and was able to delete the tweet in question and apologize rather quickly.

Ryan

Ryan is a weird dude. He doesn't cook, yet owns a plethora of kitchen gadgets. He rationalized buying a SodaStream while unemployed. He counts Step Up 2: The Streets as one of his favorite movies along with Footloose, Rent, Grease and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. He loves Mizzou but only wants them in the SEC so he can tailgate in Nashville. He owns a ShakeWeight and AbLounger, but still loves him some John Donut and Billie's Fine Foods. You can get more of Ryan at iLoveSoulard.com or just check the stool on the far end of the bar at iTap in Soulard.
