American Idol winner David Cook comes to St. Louis on Friday (Nov. 22) to play the Old Rock House downtown. Most every Idol winner still playing music has made a stop here fairly recently.. Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze have both played shows downtown in the last year. Phillip Phillips came to town in July while on tour with John Mayer. The most recent winner of the show, Candice Glover, was the headliner for the American Idol summer tour that kicked off here in June. Carrie Underwood and the expecting Kelly Clarkson also made stops here recently.
Local indie/pop sister act Bella and Lily will open the show. The sisters played LouFest in 2012 after finishing atop a local contest. The recently released their first album, Count To Ten. Listen to some of the songs from that album on their website.
Cook won season seven of the show over David Archuleta. Archuleta is currently taking a break from music while be serves a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Cook has released two albums since his win and is currently working on this third. It’s expected to be released early next year.
David is taking a somewhat unique approach with the songs he is working on for his new album. He told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this month that he is testing the new material out with the live audiences before he decides what to have on the new record. Cook recently played New York and gave a uh… very well-received performance.
The Blue Springs, Missouri native and University of Central Missouri alumnus won Idol for a reason. Be prepared to 1) see a very talented musician work his magic on the stage and 2) be elbowed by rabid middle-aged female fans who voted excessively for Cook and probably own cats. Basically, you should be at the Old Rock House this Friday for a great music and great people-watching. If your mother is anything like mine, call her to tell her you’re going. She will want you to be sure to tell David she voted for him.
When: Friday November 22 Where: Old Rock House Time: Doors open at 7pm, show at 8pm Tickets: $20 (VIP option available)
