Pink Party STL: A Breast Cancer Benefit

pink party stl 2013 October 28th marks the 6th Annual Pink Party!

I had the opportunity to participate in this event last year as a “model” for Pure Natur Aveda in Fairview Heights and it was an awesome experience. A little overwhelming; I feel like I got to take a small peek inside the life of a runway model. There were at least 10 make-up touch-ups from the time it was first applied until the 2nd runway walk, so much hairspray…so much, I learned how to walk and turn with finesse and flare, and had people yelling at me to line-up and be quiet. Wait…was that the runway show or 3rd grade? Jokes aside, the experience was amazing. Getting to hear stories from cancer survivors and participating in this benefit, which is such a valuable asset for the YWBCP (Young Women’s Breast Cancer Program), was something I’ll never forget.

pink party stl Last year’s theme was Influential Women in History, with one salon breaking down the eras of Madonna, while another celebrated our women in uniform. And while it was really interesting to see the women that inspired the salons of St. Louis, I’m even more excited for this year’s theme: Cirque du STL. I can’t imagine bigger hair or more vibrant colors than last year, and yet, it will be all of that and more!

pink stl The runway show models will be styled by local salons: Philip Johnson, Salon Fleur de Lis, Ginger Bay Salon and Spa, Grabber School of Hair Design, Paul Mitchell School of St. Louis, and Aveda Purefessional, Melissa Herzog. In addition to the runway show, the event will include Cirque du Soleil style performances from local talents.

While the show starts at 8pm, doors open at 7pm, giving you plenty of time to mingle, grab a cocktail and check out local clothing and jewelry boutiques as well as other local businesses displaying their products, so you might just find a new must-have Fall outfit or accessory or a new boutique you didn’t know existed in St. Louis. There will also be a silent auction.

pink party Not only is this a fun event to look forward to on a Monday night, celebrating the newest trends in hair and make-up, you also have the opportunity to support a great cause: the Siteman Cancer Center’s YWBCP!

General admission tickets, which include 1 free drink ticket and first come, first serve seating, are $40 in advance. VIP tickets, which include a complimentary pre-show cocktail and hors d’ oeuvres reception before the show, open bar during the show, reserved seating, free valet and a swag bag, are $100 (purchase before 9/30). Or make it a girls night, and reserve a VIP table with 7 friends. You get all of the VIP perks, but the tickets are only $87 each, if purchased before Sept 30th. Student tickets are $20 in advance (purchase at a local salon) or $30 at the door.

Doesn’t know how to cook and survives pretty much on macaroni and cheese and pizza, so naturally, loves to eat out at restaurants. However, one day when she is married and has a family to cook for, she would love to take cooking classes and learn awesome skills like the chefs on Iron Chef America...as long as she doesn't have to clean the dishes afterwards.
