BBQ, Horseradish, Food Trucks and Festival Foods…With so many delicious food and brew fests every weekend, how are St. Louisans supposed to work on their “bikini bodies?” Here are the weekend events in St. Louis from Friday, May 31st through Sunday, June 2nd, 2013:

thurman loopfest Thurman LoopFest: An annual music, arts and barbecue festival to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The family friendly festival will include arts, crafts, live music from Sarah Jane and The Bluenotes, Keith Mayer, The DTs and more, plus fun kids activities such as puppet shows and storytelling. The BBQ competition will be held on Saturday with judging at 5pm. In addition, the Shaw Neighborhood Housing Corporation will be giving tours of housing for rent and sale on Sunday, June 2nd. Admission is free.

horseradish festival Horseradish Festival: An annual festival that started in 1987, it features delicious food, live music, fun competitions including root toss, root golf, a root sacking contest, root pong and more, a Horseradish 5K, a Craft Village, a Bloody Mary contest, a Little Miss Horseradish Pageant, an Amateur Horseradish Recipe Contest, a Fishing Derby, children’s activities including a Spiderman slide, inflatable obstacle course, giant carousel bounce house and laser tag. Food at the festival includes items such as: deep friend horseradish pickles, Philly cheesesteak, bourbon chicken and shrimp, Mongolian BBQ, Pot Roast Horseradish sandwiches, horseradish cheese and much more!

Time: Fri: 6pm-10pm, Sat: 8:30am-10pm, Sun: 7:30am-6pm

Place: Woodland Park, Collinsville, IL

 

rft music showcase RFT Music Showcase: An annual all-day music festival featuring 80 local bands. Bands perform in 10 Wash Ave bars: Side Bar, Dubliner, Copia, Hair of the Dog, Flamingo Bowl, Over/Under, Rosalita’s, Lucas Park, and Alpha Brewing Co, along with an outdoor main stage. Check the website for the performance schedule. In addition to the music, the outdoor stage will offer booths from local businesses offering giveaways. Tickets are $10 and allow access into all participating venues.

Place: Washington Ave, Downtown

indihop IndiHOP: An annual festival showcasing the businesses of Cherokee Street and The Grove. The event includes sampling of over 50 different types of brews from local breweries such as: Urban Chestnut, 4 Hands, Ferguson, Griesedieck, Morgan Street, Six Row, Schlafly, Square One, Civil Life and more. Tickets are $20 and include a commemorative IndiHop tasting glass, event booklet, beer sampling, live entertainment from local musicians and street performers and shuttle transportation between the Grove and Cherokee Street.

Place: Cherokee Street & The Grove

overland block party Overland Block Party: A celebration of Overland. The event kicks off with a 5k Run/Walk at 8am followed by the See You In The Funnies themed parade at 10am. The all-day event will also include fun festival food and drinks, a vintage car show from 11am-4pm, a kids fun area, carnival games, a bungee trampoline, a strong man demonstration, live music from Hudson and the Hoo Doo Cats and the New Crime Theatre, an appearance from Fred Bird and more.

dragon boat 7th Annual Gateway Dragon Boat Festival: Come check out Dragon Boat racing. A dragon boat is a long, narrow canoe-style boat which is used in team paddling sports. Teams consist of 20 paddlers who will race down Creve Coeur Lake for the coveted traveling trophy. This is a free event for spectators. Grab a blanket or lawn chair, a cooler and come out to watch the fun. The event will offer food and non-alcoholic drink vendors. In addition, you can bring your own food and alcoholic beverages.

Date: Saturday, June 1st

Time: Race begins at 9am

Place: Creve Coeur Lake

midtown art fair Taste of Midtown Art Fair: The annual fine arts, music and food festival where over 100 artists showcase original crafts and fine arts. In addition, there will be food from 50 local restaurants, a food truck challenge where Taco Truck STL, Hot Aztec, Bombay Food Junkies, The Cheese Shack and Shell’s Coastal Cuisine compete for bragging rights. The event will include vodka and whiskey tastings and prizes, a wine garden, craft beer smapling, a craft village, kids zone and more. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on the lawn and enjoy the live entertainment from Erik Brooks, Vincent Varvel, Jen Norman, St. Louis Teen Talent Finalists and more.

Date: Saturday, June 1st – Sunday, June 2nd

Time: Sat: 10am-12am, Sun: 10am-6pm

Place: Locust St, Midtown. Just East of The Fox

dubliner Comedy Nights at The Dubliner: New comedians every week in the Leinster Room. John Camponera, famous for his Harry Caray impersonation, will perform on Thursday along with Dan Chopin. Tickets are $20. Jim McHugh, known for his unique vocal and facial expressions, will perform Friday & Saturday. Tickets are $10 for this show.

Date: Thursday, May 30th – Saturday, June 1st

Time: Doors open at 8:30pm

Place: The Dubliner – 1025 Washington Ave

auto show 26th Annual St. Louis European Auto Show: One of the finest auto shows in the Midwest featuring over 200 show cars. This show benefits St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children.

Date: Sunday, June 2nd

Time: 11am-3pm

Place: Plaza Frontenac
