Fete de Glace

I don’t know about you but I will use any excuse to head down to Main Street in St. Charles. I love the shops, the brick paved streets, the amazing food and drink, and fun events.

One of the most unique events is the  Fete de Glace. So, if you aren’t able to make it to the Loop Ice Carnival, this is your chance to see crazy cool ice masterpieces. I am always in awe of people who can create amazing pieces of art. The ice carvers will be using incredibly unique tools for their art including chainsaws, knives, hot irons, grinders, and pure concentration. What I don’t get is how they can turn this:

It is a perfect event for the whole family. Everything happens on Saturday January 26th from 9:00 – 3:30 on North Main Street.

Here is how the day will go…

Morning beginning at 9:30 the team competition starts. Each team has 2.5 hours to make one giant ice sculpture.

Afternoon beginning at 12:30, the individual competition begins and each artist must complete an additional sculpture from a 2600 lb. block of ice by 3:00.

Then, you vote on your favorite and the People Choice Awards are given out at 3:30.

They will have outdoor fire pits to help keep you warm. Make sure to stop in some of the fun shops and grab breakfast or lunch while you are there. Bring your camera, warm clothes, and an appetite for food and amazing artistry.  Prepare to be amazed.
