Celebrity Fans Be Trippin’

I stole that from a 105.7 Woody and Riz segment that goes by a slightly different name, but the concept is the same.

I recently heard the dish about Justin Bieber’s Madison Square Garden concert debacle. Apparently he took a cell phone from a fan and took a picture of himself and then handed it back to her. A unique and special thing to do for a fan. But then what happened? A bunch of crazy fans started throwing their cell phones up on the stage in hopes he would just stop his show and start taking pictures with all their phones. Needless to say that didn’t happen and instead he handed…and possibly kicked…a couple off the stage so he could continue his performance.

So then the news stories start plastering headlines saying things like ‘Justin Bieber Kicks Fans’ Cell Phones.” Really? I mean, did he really have a choice? They were just lucky to get them back. Fans can be seriously crazy! The headlines should have said: ‘Crazy Fans Throw Expensive Cell Phones On Stage Like a Bunch of Morons But Are Lucky That Justin Bieber Returned Them’…or something like that.

And it’s not that I don’t know anything about being a crazy fan. I once semi-stalked Jared Leto when he first started 30 Seconds to Mars. I followed him around my college campus, then went to his show that night, jumped on stage to dance when he offered, then drove several hours to his show in another city, where I had to drive back the same night to get to class the next morning. Not my proudest days but I’m saying, I get it.

Interestingly enough, I also know someone who is quite seriously obsessed with Dolly Parton. She used to dress like her and make the 8 hour drive to Dollywood with her season pass to see and stalkerishly take pictures of her, in front of her house, whatever she could get. She actually had such a crazy collection of Dolly memorabilia that when she gave pictures of it all to Dolly’s sister, Rachel, to give to Dolly, Rachel instead gave them to the History Channel for a documentary on Dolly Parton.

I’m sure anyone who has been lucky enough to meet, or get very close to, their favorite celebrity has done something they wouldn’t normally do without thinking logically first, but it’s like once we get this celebrity…crush, or craze or whatever you want to call it, we start trippin’ (sorry, I had to put that in here somewhere). But seriously, why are celebrities’ fans so crazy? What makes us do these crazy things?

Do you have a celebrity “crush” and what have you done to earn the headline: Celebrity Fan Be Trippin’?

Doesn’t know how to cook and survives pretty much on macaroni and cheese and pizza, so naturally, loves to eat out at restaurants. However, one day when she is married and has a family to cook for, she would love to take cooking classes and learn awesome skills like the chefs on Iron Chef America...as long as she doesn't have to clean the dishes afterwards.
