There comes a time in everyone’s Fall that they have to GET THE HECK OUT OF ST. LOUIS! Oh, I know that STL has great stuff to do, wonderful sports, etc. But, sometimes you need to get out!
This is a wonderful weekend to get out of town and head to Galena, IL! This blog post is a shameless promotion of my homeland and I am owning it up front folks.
The scenery is spectacular! This is an area the glaciers missed, so we are not talking about boring flatland-oh no! The Galena area boasts hills, valleys, ridges and scenic gorgeousness! Need more than scenery? No problem! We got it covered.
October 6-7 is the Galena Country Fair, full of art, crafts, farmer’s market, and other tasty goodness. Are you more interested in antiques-we got tons of that and other great shopping on the Main Street of Galena, named one of the Top 10 Main Streets in America.
Not really into shopping? Head East out of town to Eagle Ridge Inn Resort and Spa and play on one of 4 stunning championship golf courses. If you are an early morning golfer, I can almost guarantee that there will be a deer or two trying to join your foursome. Afterwards, hit the award-winning spa for a massage to work out the kinks that the slice on the back 9 created. Award winning spas and golfing also translate into luxury accommodations for a couple to a huge crew! Want more of a boutique style hotel with some old world flavor? Try The Irish Cottage Boutique Hotel and Frank O’Dowd’s Irish Pub & Grill.
Galena is a history buff’s paradise with the amazing historic architectural tours and ghost tours for those who prefer the paranormal. Really folks, Galena was bigger and more happening than Chicago at one time. Go figure!
My favorite activity? Wine tours! There are some great local vineyards and tour buses to help make sure you can have fun and not worry about the hills and valleys. Check out Blackhawk Wine Tours. These guys make a special stop at my favorite winery, Massbach Ridge Winery.
If you are a wino, head up on November 16-17 for Nouveau Wine Weekend.
Check out all that Galena offers at the travel and visitor’s bureau and enjoy my homeland!
Brought to you by the happy bloggers at Mills Apartments!
