Time To Get Down To SEC Business

After a quality showing against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, it’s time for the Tigers to dive right in to Southeastern Conference football against Georgia this weekend.

Sheldon Richardson is ready to get after the Bulldogs and their “old-man football” style. Maty Mauk made sure that the Tigers have a good “player getting arrested for something stupid” story. Georgia will likely be without Sanders Commings, who is serving a suspension for a January arrest for domestic assault. Outside linebacker Chase Vassar will also be in streetclothes on the Bulldogs’ sideline. Olec Ogletree and Bacarri Rambo will also likely still be serving suspensions on Saturday. Rambo just couldn’t resist a brownie over spring break.

Columbia has played host to big football weekends before but few to this extent. Delta Airlines added extra flights out of Atlanta to make it easier for Mizzou and UGA fans to get to Columbia. The game will kick off at 6:45 pm, making it a great, long day for most fans. Keep the new stadium policies in mind when planning the day. If you don’t have tickets for the game, watching it at The Blue Note sounds like a good time, with Dr. Zhivegas playing a post-game party.

Hotel rooms for the entire season are pretty much all sold out. If you are lucky enough to have a place to stay in Columbia this weekend, you want to be there Friday night to make the most of the weekend. Hopefully, you will run into Sinbad to really get your weekend started off on the right foot.

The North Village Arts District will host its first Pre-Game Art Huddle from 6p-9p on Friday. A great opportunity for the folks who have been away from Columbia too long to see a part of Columbia they may not usually see on game weekends.

Corey Smith, a Georgia native and huge Bulldogs fan, was already scheduled to play The Blue Note Friday September 7th. A corporate sponsor stepped in and plans were hatched to move the event outdoors. Now, the show will be on 9th Street and free.  The block of 9th between Broadway and Walnut will be blocked off with the entrance being at the corner of 9th and walnut.  The show will begin at 7pm with Connor Christian & Southern Gothic opening. Beverages will be served indoors and outdoors. No chairs or coolers are allowed.

Connor Christian & Southern Gothic should get the party rocking early and be a great lead-in to the party that is a Corey Smith show.

Corey Smith will get you back in the right mindset for the weekend with “Drinkin’ Again”

If Corey sings the original version of “21”, make sure to remind him this is Tiger Country.

Corey will sing “Every Dawg Has Its Day” and Tiger fans will appreciate his music, with the understanding that the Bulldogs can have their other days. September 8th is the Tigers’ day.

Plans are in the works for more activities this weekend in Columbia. A City Council meeting is planned for tonight at 7pm to discuss an area businessman’s plan for “Tiger Town”. This post will be updated with any new activities.

Remember that Saturday is the annual “Gold Rush” game.  Make sure you have some gold to rock.
