Laugh A Little!

We often mention music, art, food and sports events happening in the St. Louis area, but it’s rare I hear mention of comedians performing or comedy clubs in the area. Maybe it’s just what I choose to see and hear or maybe it’s because there’s a lack of love for the comedy world in St. Louis. Either way, I am naming today Learn About St. Louis Comedy Day!

Yes, I know it’s already “National Ice Cream Sandwich Day” and I’ll be eating one of those in honor of it, however, we should also acknowledge our comedy clubs and the comedians who grace St. Louis with their witty humor and obscene jokes today. So here is a list of comedians who will be blowing through St. Louis this weekend and the remainder of August. Explore the options, pick one and try something new this month.

First and foremost: Tracy Morgan, widely known for his current role on 30 Rock, performs at the Lumiere Theater this Friday, August 3rd. There are 2 shows, one at 7pm and one at 9pm. There are still some tickets available starting at $45.

Andy Hendrickson: Winner at HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen where he earned a spot at TBS’ Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, is performing at The Funny Bone in Maryland Heights. He is performing tonight through August 5th. Showtime tonight is 8pm and Friday-Sunday there are additional later shows as well. Tickets are still available and start at $10.

Ralphie May, 2nd runner up of the first season of Last Comic Standing, will be performing Tuesday, August 7 at 7pm at Zanie’s in St. Charles. Tickets are $30. ( I saw him a couple years ago at The Pageant and it was a great performance!) He’ll also be back at The Pageant on October 5th in case you can’t see him this time.

Mike Birbiglia, award winning comedian for his Off-Broadway show called “Sleepwalk with Me” and Comedy Central comedian, will perform Saturday, August 11th at The Pageant at 8pm. Tickets are $30 with Greg Warren opening.

Bare Knuckle Comedy Show featuring comedians from Chicago, L.A. and Bare Knuckle co-founder Kevin White, is on  Sunday, August 12 at 8pm at Cicero’s. Tickets are $5.00. From their Facebook page and Yelp review, I’d say it’s a pretty good show!

Ted Alexandro from Comedy Central has performed on the Conan O’Brien Show, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, Craig Ferguson and is now performing for St. Louis at The Funny Bone in Maryland Heights from August 8-12. Tickets start at $10.

Last, I’d like to take a minute to say farewell to one of the greatest. Steve Harvey, The King of Comedy, is saying so long to comedy tours. He performed his last St. Louis comedy show in St. Louis at The Chafeitz on July 27th and will have his Grand Finale Show tonight in Las Vegas. Of course we’ll still see him on Family Feud and the other ventures he’s adding to his plate: daytime talk show, movies, etc, but it’s not the same as seeing him like this:

Farewell to Steve, but Hello to Ralphie, Andy and the many others who will continue to deliver great comedy to St. Louis!

Doesn’t know how to cook and survives pretty much on macaroni and cheese and pizza, so naturally, loves to eat out at restaurants. However, one day when she is married and has a family to cook for, she would love to take cooking classes and learn awesome skills like the chefs on Iron Chef America...as long as she doesn't have to clean the dishes afterwards.
