What The City Needs Is……..

I love downtown St. Louis. With the arrival of Summer, the streets are vibrant and full.  Restaurant patios are lively with people dining on some of the best food St. Louis has to offer.  I love checking out the galleries, shops and downtown events.  This really is the place to be.  If you haven’t been downtown recently, you are missing out and I highly suggest you come down and check it out.  If you need some ideas for where to start, check out this collection of videos for ideas.

This is a post for all those who just want to see it getting better and better.  In my 6 months down here I’ve thought a lot about what we still need (mostly on the errand running days).

Here are my top 3 thoughts:

Another grocery store:  Culinaria is located in an awesome spot, central to most of downtown and it is a great, albeit crowded, spot to grab a quick lunch, but I would love to see a bigger selection, more produce, and more specialty food items.  I would love, love, love to see a downtown Whole Foods location, I’ve been told they have no plans for it so just any grocery store would do (preferably with a good produce section).

A Drugstore or 3:  This isn’t just to get prescriptions filled, it’s for the convenience factor.  In most major cities you see a Walgreens or Rite Aid on what feels like every corner for the quick grocery items, the Ibuprofen, the random junk and yes, also the liquor.

Hardware Store: I’m not talking major stuff here, just a small True Value Hardware or Ace, just a place to buy a hammer for when you move into that new loft, nails, screws, or any of the little stuff.

These things all focus on living downtown and the desire to make it a place that you don’t have to leave for convenience.  What would you put downtown if you could have anything?
