Clean, Industrial a little sparse for my taste…Left Bank Books

I can’t believe I have never visited Left Bank Books, possibly the most well known of the independent bookstores in St. Louis.  With two locations, one in the Central West End and one downtown, I really have no excuse.  Working downtown I passed the downtown location several times a week before finally feeling that I had time to stop in and take a peek.

From the title you may think that I’m going to rip on the store but really it is a treasure.  It’s a very industrial looking space, it is clean and spread out and has tons of niche books, and really the typical independent bookstore shopper is in to niche books.  Art, photography and all things local sections are prominently displayed in the front.  Some really cool St. Louis t-shirts are for sale and there is a loft with an ok selection of used books.  I was able to find the book I was looking for and some information on some upcoming literary events in St. Louis.  It’s not my favorite, but I can easily see the appeal and I’m certain it is a favorite to many.
