The St. Louis Zoo is finally giving River Otters the attention they deserve!  They will not be in the children’s area where you have to pay and can only see two of them, nope, they are the headlining act for Ottertoberfest and I couldn’t be more excited!

Icing on the cake: they will also have live music, food, beirgartens (& rootbeer), and cool otter activities for children and adults!  You can even talk to the Zoo Keepers with any otter questions you have at either 10am or 1:30pm.  Admission to the event is free and this is the last weekend to check it out.  It runs from 10:00 – 3:00 on both Saturday, October 15th and Sunday the 16th.

Don’t miss your chance to see these playfull, adorable animals!

Here are some Otter-Fun-Facts!

  • They can stay underwater for up to five minutes.
  • Otters are the only marine mammals that have fur instead of blubber.
  • Otters spend the majority of their time on land.
  • Male Otters are called meowters, females are queens, and the offspring are pups.
  • They have the ability to create and use tools just like beavers, monkeys, and apes.
  • Otters are believed to be one of the most intelligent creatures in the world.

*Side note: For other Otter-lovers, you can adopt an Otter at the Zoo for $30 and be on the Zoo Parent kiosk and much more, check out the details here.
