ACM Awards 2011
I’ve not been a faithful country music fan for quite a while – but, I decided to watch the Academy of Country Music Awards last night anyway…
Given that I didn’t know any of the songs (and only a few of the artists) nominated, I was looking forward to the performances. They really had a great line-up…
- Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler perform ‘Undo it’ and ‘Walk this Way’
Carrie looked HOT and Steven Tyler seemed…umm…confused (or on something)? Either way it was still good – loved the pink in Carrie’s hair!
- Rihanna performed with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland singing ‘California King Bed’
So, this was the one I thought would be THE performance of the night…wrong (see below). Rihanna seemed like she didn’t want to be there and only half-performed the song in my opinion. She has an amazing voice and she really underwhelmed. However, Jennifer Nettles sang it beautifully and really saved the performance (maybe she should record it too)!
- Zac Brown Band and James Taylor sing ‘Cold Weather’
This performance surprised me. I really liked it and I might be a new fan of the Zac Brown Band…except for the winter hat the lead singer was wearing – you are in Las Vegas not North Dakota…I’m just saying! Oh, I found out they also sing ‘Chicken Fried’ which I am not a fan of, but they have redeemed themselves. Very cool duet and I really enjoyed the song!
I was a little disappointed in how many times Miranda Lambert won…made it not so much fun for other performers and fans (also hated her dress – beside the point). I am also not impressed with any of the new artists/groups nominee – except maybe Eric Church. The Band Perry has some serious hair issues on multiple levels and people – it was distracting, don’t even remember the music.
I did enjoy Reba as usual – Blake was ok!
I wouldn’t say I will be back on Country music full-time, but it certainly kept me entertained and sparked my interest.
