Signs from God

I think that at some point in our lives we have all thrown our hands up or let our face fall, bowing our head in defeat.  There’s a sense of failure and an aura of hopelessness that surrounds us.  Sometimes it’s so thick it’s like an early morning fog that hovers so close to the ground that when you breathe you can feel the mist weighing in your lungs.  Even your heart feels heavy in your chest so much so, that your shoulders involuntarily hunch over.

Some form of quiet plea escapes your lips.  ‘I promise I won’t blank anymore if blank.’  ‘What did I do to make blank happen to me?’  ‘What do I do now?’  ‘How will I know if it’s the right thing to do?’  ‘Can you send me a sign?’

We’ve all done that, right?  Asked God to send us a sign.  To show us what He wants next in our lives.  What job to take, what to say to someone who has hurt us or that we’ve hurt, what direction to go after losing a loved one.

I want to share with you something that has happened recently in my life.  Usually a very happy, upbeat, ‘brighter side of life’ person I had found myself being easily angered, extremely irritable, and even outright mean.  And being frustrated made me frustrated!  Talk about an ugly circle.  Then one day last week, driving out of the little town I live in, past the church next to the highway, I saw their sign that usually advertises service times.  It read, “Be as patient with others as God is with you.”

Bam.  There you go.  God had quite literally sent me a sign.  I’ll admit that tears swelled up in my eyes.

I’ve always been a fan of reading the little sayings that are on these boards as I drive by.  I’ve just never felt like the words there were meant specifically for me.  That day they were.
